Vision & Mission

VISION

To be one of the world leaders in vaccine research and development

MISSION

To excel in high quality clinical research and development

  • During the initial five-year period of establishment, a research study on the Cholera vaccine, namely the diarrheal vaccine, has been conducted in Vaccine Trial Centre and funded by the World Health Organization.
  • The scope of research was broadened to include additional vaccines, such as the malaria vaccine, measles vaccine administered by intranasal preparation, Rotavirus vaccine, Shigella vaccine, and HPV vaccine.
  • Due to the AIDS epidemic in Thailand in 1992, the Vaccine Trial Centre conducted phase I/II clinical trials since 1995. The first experimental AIDS vaccine Subunit (recombinant protein) gp120 subtype B, gp120 subtype E/ combined with B antigen followed by phase III AIDSVAX B/E vaccine in 1998, ALVAC-HIV vaccine (recombinant vectors) phase I/II in 2000 and phase III in 2003.
  • Since 1997, Thai AIDS Vaccine Evaluation Group (TAVEG) was established, including Faculty of Tropical Medicine of Mahidol University, Faculty of Medicine of Chiang Mai University, The Armed Forces Research Institute of Medical Sciences (AFRIMS), with sponsor from the Walter Reed Army Institute of Research (WRAIR) to conducted HIV vaccine research.
  • Since the year 2000, the Vaccine Trial Centre has conducted clinical trial result in seven registered vaccines, including the cholera vaccine. HPV 4-strain (6,11,16,18) (Gardasil) vaccine. Gardasil 9 uses the HPV 9 strain to prevent cervical cancer. Live Attenuated Influenza Vaccine (H1N1), Vaccine for Avian Influenza(H5N2), Seasonal influenza vaccine, Dengue vaccine and cell-free diphtheria-tetanus-pertussis vaccine.
  • The Influenza vaccine projects, including Live Influenza Vaccine Development Projects with support from the World Health Organization and inactivated influenza vaccine domestically produced by the Pharmaceutical Organization

Our Global Footprint

  • Conduct phase I, II, III vaccine trials to evaluate the safety, and immune response efficacy in humans
  • Analyze data and literature review for vaccine policy
  • Conduct implementation research and effectiveness of infectious disease vaccines
